Kevin Dunne

I am 76 years old, married to Kathleen, my wife of 47 years. We have two children, Tim and Elizabeth. We have two grandchildren, Luke and Claire. I am a 1971 graduate of Buena Vista University where I majored in History and Physical Education. In 1973 I began my career, coaching and teaching youth sports, that eventually led to the job of manager of the Freeport Recreation Center. I joined the Long Island Club in 1984. Retiring in 2007, I started a small specialty woodworking business concentrating on wood bases for miniatures and travel boxes. I’ve been vendor chair for two world expos as well as two APG shows. I’ve also Throughout my retirement I’ve traveled to shows as both a vendor and exhibitor. I’ve been fortunate to receive awards from the shows I’ve attended. In 2016 I was voted an Atlanta Grand Master. I continue to enjoy both sculpting and painting.
Q &A
1. What was the 1st figure you ever painted?
A Britians toy soldier mounted lancer officer in 1962, yes, 63 years ago.
2. What's your favorite painting medium and why?
After a lot of years painting with oils, I’m now absolutely in love with acrylics.
3. Do you have a favorite figure manufacturer?
I have three favorite manufacturers: Dolman, FER, and Young.
4. What are your favorite topics and or historical periods to paint?
Ancient and Medievals are the two historical periods I absolutely love. I also enjoy painting
figures from the American Revolution.

5. Do you have a favorite artist and why?
I have three favorite artists: Greg DiFranco, Mike Blank, and Jim Rice.

6. Do you have any advice for beginners?
Regarding advice to beginners: stop watching all the videos about how to paint. Just paint,
and then paint more. Persistence will be rewarded!
